The staff of the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya under the guidance of Professor Janaki Hewavisenthi, offer consultative services in the interpretation of tissue samples suspected to have a wide array of diseases related to the hepatobiliary system. This is based on the  long and extensive experience of the team in handling both adult and paediatric hepatobiliary diseases including  infections, autoimmune, metabolic, genetic and neoplastic diseases as well as services related to liver transplant pathology.

Our consultative service includes cellular pathology, cytology and immunohistochemistry. Where appropriate and necessary, our histopathology interpretations may include opinions or suggestions for further studies based on discussions held at multidisciplinary team meetings.

Our services support the Division of adult and paediatric hepatology and hepatobiliary surgery. We are at the forefront of diagnosis of numerous diseases related hepatobiliary system and transplant pathology in both children and adults in Sri lanka.
