Anesthesia in HPB and Transplant
The team has played a pivotal role in driving liver transplantation at CNCLD. We have been innovative with our limited resources and been quick to adopt evidence based best practices in perioperative care for liver transplantation. The key areas include the goal directed hemodynamic management, rotational thromboelastometry guided use of blood products, transfusion free liver transplant and fast track extubation.
Postgraduate training in Anaesthesia and critical care for organ transplantation is a priority for this team. Senior trainees are actively involved in perioperative management, in the conduct of clinics and research.
Undergraduate medical students are encouraged to work & learn under the mentorship of our team.
Our research and development projects have been presented at national and international conferences. In 2020, the R. Sashidharan prize by the College of Anaesthesiologists and Intensivists of Sri Lanka and the best oral presentation at the Evidence based perioperative Medicine (EBPOM) in London, were awarded to our research on Frailty in patients listed for liver transplant.
Our team is supported by an international network including the International liver transplant society (ILTS) and the Liver intensive care group of Europe (LICAGE).
Our vision is to become a centre of excellence in perioperative care, undergraduate and postgraduate training, research and development in anaesthesia and critical care for liver disease.
