Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary (HPB) services
CNCLD has become the leading center for general HPB services in the country over the last ten years. We started our HPB service in 2011. Over the last 10 years our team and services have expanded to serve the needs of Sri Lankans. At present we perform an average of 30 – 40 pancreatic resections a year. We have reported one of the best perioperative outcomes after Whipple surgery. We perform similar number of liver resections yearly. These include many complex liver resections for benign and malignant liver diseases. Our database maintains prospective data of over 800 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, the largest in the country. In 2020, we started a palliative care service for the patients with terminal HPB malignancies. Our team of interventional radiologists offers full range of treatment for HCC and has the highest turnover in the country. We also provide endotherapy services (ERCP) starting from 2016. Our team of anesthetists trained in HPB and transplant and intensivist has become a great asset for superior outcomes.
Over the last 10 years we have produced over 25 original papers, over 50 scientific presentations in local and international forums. Our members have delivered five orations based on the work that were done in CNCLD. CNCLD has also become a training center for general surgery with special interest in HPB surgery.
In future, we hope to expand our services in laparoscopic HPB surgery. We also hope to develop collaborations with the international centers in staff training and bringing in new innovations to the country. We hope to become one of the best centers for HPB surgery in the region.
