‘Memorandum of Understanding: broaden the horizons of liver disease’
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on September 1 st , 2023, between the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Kelaniya and Dr. Rela Institute and Medical Center, India, marks a significant step forward in the field of liver diseases and patient care in Sri Lanka.
Over the last two decades, the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Kelaniya has been at the forefront of managing liver diseases in Sri Lanka. With the formal establishment of the Colombo North Center for Liver Diseases and its expansion to a new facility, the institution has demonstrated its commitment to taking the country to the next level in the management of liver diseases.
The Dr. Rela Institute and Medical Center, India, under the leadership of Prof. Mohomed Rela, is one of the world's largest centers specializing in adult and pediatric liver transplants. The collaboration between these two institutions has been ongoing for the past ten years, demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing liver disease treatment, professional education, and research.
The MOU signed on 1 st of September 2023 further solidifies the already existing strong relationship between these two institutions. It paves the way for even greater achievements in patient care, research, and the advancement of liver disease management in Sri Lanka.
