A special Buddhist sermon and Alms Giving was organized by the Colombo North Centre For Liver Diseases with the participation of Monks who donated part of their liver and the monks who underwent liver transplant. This was held on 18th of September 2022 at the operating theatre complex at CNTH, Ragama.
The Sermon was delivered by Ven. Udakotuwe Sugathdeera thero who donated part of the liver for a child suffered with end stage liver disease to undergo liver transplant. The sermon was centered on the importance of ‘Dhana’, selfless giving, and shared his own experience and view on organ donation.
Dhamma stories delivered on organ donation and the returns of organ donation as said in Buddhist literature made a positive impact on those who attended the sermon.
The alms giving was prepared for 9 Bhikkhus. These included the monks who donated part of their livers fulfilling one of the ultimate “Dana Paramitha” in their path to liberation and monks who underwent liver transplant at CNCLD.
The event was attended by many, including the CNCLD team, Staff at CNTH, Ragama including The Director, doctors, nursing officers and other staff members and the patients and families who benefited from the liver transplant programme.
The team extend their heartfelt gratitude towards all those who supported the event in various ways, including the support from well-wishers from Australia.
